DaVinci Gourmet travelled back to its American roots this April, as proud gold sponsor and exhibitor at the World Barista Championships in Seattle.
The championship, which celebrates and promotes excellence in coffee, also prides itself upon advancing the barista profession. The culmination of local and regional events from around the globe, the championship attracts entrants from more than 50 nations, each competing for the highly coveted title of World Barista Champion of the Year. The tough 15-minute performance required each contestant to produce four espressos, four cappuccinos, and four original signature drinks to exacting standards in a bid to impress WCE Certified Judges from around the world, with each performance judged on taste, cleanliness, creativity, technical skill, and overall presentation.
Eventually twelve competitors from the first round were whittled down to just six competing in the finals, which proved as close as ever! Maxwell Colonna Dashwood, winner of the UKBC claimed 5th place with Sasa Sestic from Australia taking home the prestigious title.
DaVinci Gourmet ran a fantastic competition for one lucky winner and a guest to jet off to Seattle for VIP treatment during the show. The prize went to Sarah Ebbatson from Mellie Moo’s Coffee Baa in Buxton, who received complimentary flights, five night’s accommodation and admission to each day of the show courtesy of World Coffee Events including exclusive backstage access. In addition Sarah attended the glittering official after party, which was sponsored by DaVinci Gourmet and provided a fitting finale to the trip.
Following her unforgettable experience, Sarah commented; “The trip was amazing! I was lucky enough to meet some really influential people and it was great to see some truly innovative ideas. I immersed myself into all things coffee, speaking with baristas and finding ideas to add to my own menu back in the UK!’’
